So much in so little time

So much has happened in the last few months. Lots of things except picture taking and putting them on my blog. My dad died and we had his funeral, I'm another year older, we sold our house, been on holiday, got a new camera for my birthday, sold two old ones and updated my iPhone to a 5.

There have been some sad times and some happy times, but things are returning to normality, or they will do once I've moved house which is taking place in the next couple of days. During this time, one thing that has remained constant is my love of the sea which always calms me down. I took these last week on my birthday weekend. Yes, it's a subject and place that I've covered before, but it's my blog and my indulgence and it makes me happy.

Black bright

Well it's been some time since I posted any photos, but injury has limited my walking and picture taking opportunities. However, I managed to have a walk over Black Hill in the Peak District a couple of days ago and the sun was out.

Black Hill is a hill in the Peak District, England.

It is the highest point in the historic county of Cheshire and now lies on the border between the boroughs of Kirklees in West Yorkshire and High Peak in Derbyshire, reaching 582 metres (1,909 ft) above sea level.

The top is peaty and thus very boggy after rain. The area surrounding the summit itself had virtually no vegetation and was very dark, giving the hill an appropriate name. However, recent restoration work has eliminated much of the exposed peat. Black Hill is crossed by the Pennine Way whose now-paved surface allows walkers to reach the top dry-shod even in the wettest of weather (information from Wikipedia).

Falling down

Last Wednesday I fell over injuring my ankle resulting in a trip to A&E, an x-ray and a sprained ankle. Now I can't walk properly so can't go to work, drive my car or leave the house. I'm really bored. Normally love being at home, walking the dogs, pottering about, taking pictures and doing some exercise. So today, I thought I'd take my mind off my sore leg and take some pictures indoors.

However, black and white daffs can appear a little depressing. Need to find something to shoot that's a little more uplifting!

Ross Back Sands

Ross Back Sands is a very remote beach between Holy Island and Budle Bay which can only be reached by walking for about a mile via a path at Ross. It's worth the effort. The views are incredible and not many people visit it.

Holy Island

The isle of Lindisfarne is a tidal island off the north-east coast of England. It is also known as Holy Island and constitutes a civil parish in Northumberland. Standing on a rocky outcrop overlooking the island is Lindisfarne Castle, a small fortress first built in 1550. The only way across to the island is to use a causeway, although you must remember to check the tidal times before you set off.

The island is a great place to visit, but not if it's windy. Our visit was cut short due to nearly being blown over once or twice and nearly losing the wife into the sea.

Bamburgh Castle

Easter weekend also saw me visiting Bamburgh Castle which spans nine acres of land on a rocky plateau high above the Northumberland coastline. It is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country.
